New York's famous Brooklyn Bridge is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful bridges in the world and is a well-known landmark in New York. Brooklyn Bridge is the first ever steel suspension bridge ever built and it connects Manhattan Island to Brooklyn. When the bridge opened in 1883, it was the world's longest suspension bridge and it underwent an extensive restoration in the early 1980s. Synonymous with the city of New York, the Chrysler Building is one of the most well-known and loved landmarks in the whole of New York. The tower was commissioned by wealthy automobile businessman Walter Chrysler, who wanted an imposing monument that was taller than the Eiffel Tower. There was an unofficial competition with the Bank of Manhattan tower at Wall Street, that was slightly taller and so, just before the Chrysler Building was finished, a 123-foot / 38-meter stainless steel spire was added to the top to ensure that it was higher. When New York's Chrysler Building was finally opened in 1930 it was declared the world's tallest building, although this title only lasted a year, until the Empire State Building was completed. Much of the New York Chrysler Building is actually based upon a 1929 Chrysler Plymouth motorcar.

The Empire State Building is perhaps the most well-known of all New York landmarks and is the definitive skyscraper. Construction started in 1929 and by 1931, the building was increasing by a rate of four stories a week. The Empire State Building was finally opened in 1931 and was the world's tallest ever building for forty years, until the World Trade Center was built. Famous for appearing in the epic film King Kong, highlights of the Empire State Building include a super-fast elevator, rooftop observatories with spectacular panoramic views of New York, including the Statue of Liberty, and the New York Skyride on the Mezzanine floor, which simulates a rooftop flight. New York's Empire State Building is 1,250 feet / 381 meters high with 102 floors.

Battery Park in New York's Manhattan district dates back over 300 years and was once an island, before landfill closed the gap. The park features a 19th-century fort that was built to protect the island, with a battery of cannons providing the name. Other interesting features of this major New York landmark include Castle Clinton, a red circular castle built in 1807 and situated to one side of the island, the East Coast Memorial, which consists of a series of granite slabs with the names of all the US seamen that were killed in World War II, and excellent views of both the Statue of Liberty and nearby Ellis Island.
